The Frostbitten Catacombs: The Second Floor of Dungeon Exiles 0.2.0!

Hello everyone! Today I have a big update for you all! Make sure you're wearing something warm because we are going to be delving into the Frostbitten Catacombs in Dungeon Exiles 0.2.0 which is the second floor of the dungeon! In the Frostbitten Catacombs you'll enjoy a new roaster of enemies as well as some QoL improvements, so let's get right into it.

What's New?

Second Floor

Welcome to the Frostbitten Catacombs, you'll need to stay on your toes if you want to withstand the onslaught and make it to the end. You'll automatically be transported to the Frostbitten Catacombs upon slaying the Skeletal Behemoth in the Necropolis Depths (the final boss of the first floor). But don't worry, I'm not cruel, upon slaying the Skeletal Behemoth you'll be healed to full so you'll have a fair chance at the second floor.

New Enemies

Frostwing Bat

This is the Frostwing Bat, a colder and deadlier variant of the regular bat enemy. This one also restores health on hit.

Frost Skeleton

It wouldn't be Dungeon Exiles without a classic skeleton enemy. This one has no special mechanics, just a simple and clean fight.

Skeleton Mage

The Skeleton Mage is the spellcaster of the Frostbitten Catacombs. Be careful of his powerful Icebolt spell!

Death Knight Initiate

This is the last of the regular enemies of the second floor: the Death Knight Initiate. Boasting a shield that slowly regenerates, this enemy is the Slime replacement for the second floor.

Death Knight Zealot

The elite of the Frostbitten Catacombs is the fearsome Death Knight Zealot. The Death Knight Zealot is very tanky, boasting a regenerating shield, a Soulstrike ability that recovers his health and slight protection against Critical Strikes!

Cryomancer Valthorin

Last but certainly not least is the final boss of the Frostbitten Catacombs, the vile Cryomancer Valthorin! I won't spoil what he does, so feel free to download the game and see his deadly power for yourself!

Pause Menu

In Dungeon Exiles 0.2.0 pressing "escape" will no longer immediately close the game (unless you are in the character select menu). Pressing "escape" will instead pause the game where you'll have the choice of resuming, returning to the character select menu or quitting. No longer will you accidentally close the game when trying to pause!

What's next?

So, this is the biggest update I've done for Dungeon Exiles. This has roughly doubled the amount of content in the game, but there's still much more to do because the Frostbitten Catacombs isn't finished yet.

New Items

For the second floor, I would like to introduce frost-themed items to help you on your adventures!

New Random Events

Next, I would like to add in new random events that are specific to the second floor and perhaps cycle out some of the old random events once you reach a new floor.

Class Balance

Next, I have some big plans for some major class rebalancing. Firstly, I want to add class-specific level-up options. If you've played Dungeon Exiles you'll know that certain passives such as Attunement (Gain 2 Mana on Crit) and Vampirism (Gain 2 Health on Crit) aren't that desirable on the Knight and the Mage, however can be quite overpowered on the Rogue once they have enough crit. The issue is, I can't just nerf Attunement because it's already quite weak on the other two classes, so my solution is to make certain passives locked to a certain class and this will give me the freedom to make more powerful level-up choices without fearing that it will make another class to overpowered.

Knight's End

So, this was something I was considering. I was considering changing the Knight into the Warrior for thematic reasons. With the Knight, I wanted to explore more design choices related to Rage, or Berserking but it just didn't fit the Knight fantasy. So I want to change the Knight into the Warrior just to give myself more freedom to experiment. If you are a Knight enjoyer don't worry because in the future there will be another class that would tick that fantasy for you... I would hope so, considering that I, myself, am a Knight enjoyer.

Closing Words

So yeah, that's all I have you for all this time. Feel free to download and play Dungeon Exiles 0.2.0 and venture into the Frostbitten Catacombs and if you have any feedback let me know! I hope you enjoyed and hopefully I'll catch you in the next one. Peace!
