Reworking Random Events - Dungeon Exiles 0.2.5
Hello everyone, today I have patch 0.2.5 of Dungeon Exiles! This update focuses on how I completely reworked my random event system. So, let's get right now into it!
What's new?
Reworked Random Events
In Dungeon Exiles 0.2.5 I have completely reworked random events, so let me go through what's different.
Firstly, the Event Menu has been reworked so I had more random for more text. This meant that I could place a greater focus on the narrative.
Next, you'll notice that events have been colour-coded. Instead of explicitly stating all possible outcomes and their percentages, it is instead hinted through narrative hints and colours. So for example, in this option you could gain gold, but you would you risk a possible negative effect and damage. That is conveyed through the different colours:
Gold: Chance of treasure
Green: Chance of restoring health
Red: Chance of taking damage
Teal: Chance of a positive effect
Orange: Chance of a positive effect
Purple: Chance of gaining experience
Light Blue: Skill check
Yellow: Refers to a person or a thing
Next, you'll notice that some options have a gold cost associated with them. You can only select these options if you have enough gold (else they'll be greyed out) and upon selecting this option you'll pay the gold amount.
Each event outcome is still determined by luck, but you can improve your chances. Certain events have skill checks (shown in light blue) where the appropriate main stat (Such as Strength, Dexterity or Intelligence) will be used to increase your odds of success. Lastly, there is a new hidden stat called Luck! Luck is hidden from your character sheet and it's hard to acquire, but lucky characters will find random events more often go in their favour!
The last new thing of this patch is the introduction of Combat Buffs! Certain events can reward you (or penalise you) with an effect that persists for multiple combats. So a friendly Cleric may grant you a Blessing of Protection, which increases your shield regeneration for a few fights. However, getting lost in the darkness may leave you Shaken for a few fights...
What's next?
So this is pretty much everything I want to talk about for patch 0.2.5. With the completion of the random event system, this means that I'm officially finished with the Road to the Third Floor, which, for those who don't know, was all the work I had to complete before I could start working on the next floor for Dungeon Exiles. However, there is one more feature I want to add before I get into it.
So yeah, I hope you found this interesting and if you did feel free to download and play Dungeon Exiles! Thanks for reading!
