Improving My Enemies and Adding Status Effects - Dungeon Exiles 0.2.4


Hello everyone! Today I have Dungeon Exiles 0.2.4 where I've improved my enemies and made them deadlier! I've also added two new status effects and added a few new items and passives to help you face off against these deadlier foes! So with that said, let's get into it!

What's new?

Enemy Modifiers

In Dungeon Exiles 0.2.4 enemies can spawn with random modifiers that enhance their stats. The idea behind these random modifiers is that as you progress through the floors you'll need to have a well-rounded character to survive the onslaught. Also, enemies will grant more experience per modifier they spawn with, so it's not all bad.

There are many more modifiers to come but currently, enemies can spawn with things such as increased attack speed, crits, health and elemental resistance. Moreover, some modifiers are floor-specific, so enemies within the Frostbitten Catacombs can spawn with Chilling Touch which inflicts extra cold damage and can freeze you.

Status Effects

In Dungeon Exiles 0.2.4 I have added two new status effects: Freeze and Fear! Mechanically they are identical, but with different a flavour. So if you are frozen or feared you will be unable to cast your spell, use your ability, or perform an attack. However, passive effects will still apply such as Health or Mana regeneration. The wraiths of the Necropolis Depths have been updated to use the new Fear status effect, and the Skeletal Behemoth (alongside having a visual upgrade) now has the Fearsome Presence skill which gives his attacks a chance to inflict fear.


New Level-up Choices

To help you deal with these empowered enemies, I have added some new level-up passives to help you survive! For the Warrior is Sentinel, which provides you with a chance to block attacks. Blocked attacks deal 50% less damage:

Next is Evasion for the Rogue! Dodged attacks deal no damage and will not trigger on-hit effects:

Lastly is Frost Barrier for the Mage! This provides some Shield on combat start, but also provides a chance to freeze attackers on hit! It's worth noting that increased Skill Effect Duration increases the duration of your freezes.

New and Reworked items

So in this update, I've gone through and added a few new items and I've rebalanced a lot of the old ones. I'll just mention the Winter Cloak which has been changed to provide a new stat called Reduced Freeze Duration on You. Pretty much, this stat reduces the time you are frozen for, but don't worry, this doesn't affect the duration of YOUR freezes on enemies, this is just how long you are frozen for.

New Animations

Lastly for this update, I've gone through and reworked some of the art for some of the enemies and I've added idle animations for ALL characters! It would be too much to post a GIF of all of the characters, I'll just say, that if you want to see the new animations feel free to download and check out the game!

What's next?

So, progress on the Road to the Third Floor has been good, and for those who don't know the Road to the Third Floor is pretty much all of the work that I need to do before I can start working on the next floor of the game. Three main things needed to be done. 1. I needed to finish the buff and debuff system 2. I needed to animate ALL characters and 3. I needed to rework the random event system. So, 2/3 are finished! With this update, I've finished the buff and debuff system as well as animating all of the characters, so my focus for the next update is going to be reworking and fixing up the random event system and then hopefully I can start working on the third floor of Dungeon Exiles!
