Feast or Famine: Introducing Consumables in Dungeon Exiles 0.1.3!

Hello everyone! Today I'm releasing patch 0.1.3 of Dungeon Exiles! In this patch, you can sate your appetite by purchasing new consumables from shops which you can store in your food pouch! Moreover, you can enjoy other improvements like new treasure items art, new level-up options, revamping the UI and bug fixes! So let's jump right into it!

What's new?

Consumables

Ever felt hungry while dungeoneering? Well no more! In 0.1.3 you can visit any shop node and be greeted by a new selection of tasty foods that will restore your health in battle! Right now there are four types of food that heal for varying amounts, but there will be more to come in future updates!

You don't want to get dirt on your food, do you? Well, luckily for you food is stored inside your trusty food pouch which can be viewed from your character stats panel (Press "C" to toggle). However, you might need to be a bit picky because you can only hold up to three pieces of food at a time.

In Dungeon Exiles, food is completely automatic. If you have food in your food pouch it will be automatically eaten upon reaching 50% health. The first item in your food pouch will be consumed first, with the ability to reorganise the pouch coming in a later update. So the choice is yours, do you save your gold for a powerful new item? Or do you buy yourself some lunch?

New Treasure Icons

As of 0.1.3, I've added new and unique icons for the treasure items so that they no longer share their icons with common shop items. A few of the treasure items have been buffed and nerfed to be more balanced.

New Level-Up Options

In 0.1.3 there are two new level-up options that have some pretty good synergy with each other. Health stackers rejoice!

Titanic Strength: Which gives you added Attack Damage equal to 1.5% of your Maximum Health

Battle Scars: Which gives you +2 to your Maximum Health at the end of every Combat

As part of this update, I've changed the way gaining maximum health restores health. In the past, the game would try to maintain your health percentage. For example, if you had 50/100 health (so 50%) and you gained an extra 50 to your maximum health, your current health would be raised to maintain your health percentage. So you would go from 50/100 (50%) to 75/150 (50%). The reasoning was in an earlier design of the game, items would have been limited by an inventory and you could only equip so many items. I wanted to avoid abuse cases where you could simply equip and un-equip items to heal yourself. However, at least right now, I'm letting players just stack as many items as possible and you currently cannot remove items so now if you gain any amount of maximum health you'll be healed for that amount. So with that old example of 50/100. If you are at 50/100 and gain 50 to your maximum health you would instead be at 100/150 health. This is a buff!

UI Improvements

So you may have noticed throughout this post that there are new UI elements. Instead of the standard grey box, I've added some new UI elements with some flourishes to look more interesting. Moreover, I've updated the bar textures so they look shinier in combat.

Here's a close-up of the new border icons. That severed finger never looked so good!

What's Next?

In truth, I'm not sure specifically what's next. There are more stats and level-up options I want to add, specifically for the Mage because I feel like in general the Mage is underperforming slightly. However, I think it might be time for me to look towards adding the second floor to Dungeon Exiles...
