Hidden Treasure - Dungeon Exiles 0.1.2

Hello everyone! Today I'm releasing patch 0.1.2 for Dungeon Exiles! In this update, I've added Treasure Rooms, the Character Stats Panel, improved the clarity of Random Events and added in some new post-combat text. So, let's get into it!

What's new?

Treasure Rooms

New on the map are treasure rooms, they are a guaranteed spawn on every path and random events have a small chance of containing a treasure room.

Within a treasure chest, you can only pick one of three powerful items. Each item has powerful and sometimes unique stats that will give you the power boost you need to defeat the boss of the first floor! In light of this new power, the final boss has been slightly buffed so he remains a challenge.

Character Panel

New in 0.1.2 is the character stats panel! This panel can be opened at any time after class select by pressing "C" and you can press "C" again to close it. So the character panel will update as you gain more stats, however, it's worth noting a few quirks of its current implementation, which I will list at the end in the "Known Bugs" section. Mainly that, to update the Character Panel you'll need to close it and re-open it.

Improving Clarity Of Random Events

In 0.1.2 random events have been changed slightly so all potential outcomes are clearer without explicitly stating what will happen. So in the above image, by selecting that option the player will have the information necessary to know that they could potentially take damage here. The main thing I wanted to be very clear on with certain options is if there is a potential to take damage because as I said in my last devlog, I want to avoid a situation where a player selected an option where they had no idea they could die from it resulting in a frustrating end to their run. So hopefully this adjustment makes things like that a lot clearer.

Post Combat Text

Lastly in 0.1.2, I've added floating post-combat text. So in addition to your regular floating damage numbers when an enemy is slain you can see exactly how much gold and experience you gained from that kill. The idea is that with this information you'll be better equip to make decisions on your path, if you want to go for a fight in hopes of gaining enough xp or if you'll go a different path and risk it for more gold.

What's Next?

Consumables

For the next update for Dungeon Exiles, I want to add consumables to the shops. Eagle-eyed viewers may have noticed that the left side of the shops were empty, and the reason for that is that I intend to put buyable consumables in there. As for the specifics of it? Well, you'll just have to wait until the next devlog to learn more! Or... check me out on Twitter (@GronkinsArt) where I post frequent updates on the game.

General Improvements

I want to see if I can fix some of the issues with the Character Panel. The reason why it wasn't in this update was because I didn't want to do a scuffed solution, I wanted to take my time to ensure my implementation wouldn't cause issues further down the line.

Closing Words

So yeah, this is all I have for Dungeon Exiles 0.1.2! You can download it for free right here and give it a try! So thank you for reading and hopefully, I'll see you in the next one.

Peace!

Known Bugs

  • Character Panel does not dynamically update when taking damage, buying an item or levelling up
  • Closing the Character Panel closes all tooltips even if the mouse wasn't within the Character Panel
